"Electric Diddley Bow" click here for more photos
This is an electric one string diddley bow. I found a cool piece of driftwood and have been hanging on to for a year now, but it wasn't until I found this old tobacco tin that this came together. The tin has a piezo pick-up mounted inside with input jack and volume control as well. It also has a bottle neck for the nut and a guitar tunning key. I found this old medicine bottle to fret the notes with as well. This thing is fun to play and awesome to look at.
"Battalion Three Stringer" click here for more photos
I built this one special order for lucky guy's birthday present. His lady definitely has good taste. This is a basic three string acoustic made from a nice rough textured box. I cut the fret markers and stained them dark, then sanded away the rest of the stain to re finish with a lighter color, leaving the dark stained frets. The markers are branded screw heads and it has bolts for bridge and nut. This thing sounds raw.
"Gurkha with lipstick pickup" click here for more photos
I built this guitar for myself because I wanted something with this jangly lipstick pickup in it. The result was a old rough cut box with the sound holes underneath the gold name plate. It has an oak fret board where the skinny pre-war style fret wire sits. I used a micarta bridge in an oak saddle and wired this with both volume and tone controls. It was a lot of work, but it sounds and plays real cool like.
"Catrina" click here for more photos
The Iconic figure of Catrina is very closely associated with 'dia de los muertos', or day of the dead. I did my own version of her on this guitar as part of a 4 guitar series for an art exhibit that was held in Anaheim. This is an acoustic 4 stringer with hinge tail piece, cut in fret markers, custom art work, and special button inlays for the fret markers.
"La mano del Amor" or the Hand of Love. click here for more photos
This one I wanted to do a little something different with. I had the idea for the hand for a while and I wanted to make it holding something. I worked this rose into the box so it sticks out in relief and breaks outside the dimensions of the box, this was the favorite piece at the 'dia de los muertos' show in Anaheim. This is an acoustic 4 stringer with hinge tail piece, cut in fret markers, custom art work and rose piece sticking out of the box.

"Gurkha" click here for more photos

This is one of the coolest boxes I have seen. It's a nice rough cut, two piece box with a great looking brass name plate. The sound holes are hidden under the plate, which is raised just slightly to let out the beefy sound. This one has toothpick frets, to keep with that rustic look and feel. The piezo transducer pick up is mounted between the neck and box and has a real grungy sound when plugged in. A volume control and custom branded fret dots finish it nicely.

Custom painted box and neck art. The chicken foot and the two headed snake on the box, keep the mojo where it belongs. The neck and head stock are custom painted and slightly "aged" for a vintage, broken-in feel. This box is a little thicker than most and has a real nice sound. There is a volume control and of course piezo transducer pick up to electrify your playing.

Hand painted oil portrait on a Cuban Romeo y Julieta box and custom design on the head stock. With branded in fret dots on the dark poplar wood neck, the art is complete. A volume control with chrome knob and piezo transducer pick up accompany Dan to get the sound out. This guitar sounds as good as it looks.

"Cuesta-Rey Ukulele" click here for more photos

This "Cuesta-Rey" box was so pretty, yet a little smaller and skinnier than most, that I wasn't sure what to make of it. So, I tore apart my old ukulele and rebuilt it in to this new uke. Real sharp looking, sure to draw attention when playing at the hukilau.
